Attack Racing Celebrates Success at Ontario Cup Track Opener
London, ON — Attack Racing launched its track cycling season with a stellar performance at the Ontario Cup opener this past weekend at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre. With strong showings by 15 athletes across multiple categories, the team demonstrated its depth and commitment to excellence.
Among the weekend’s highlights:
- Eve Buczkowski triumphed in the Women’s Category A Elimination and Keirin races, while also taking third in the inaugural Women’s Kilo.
- West Mckay-Changon, a newly minted U19, podiumed in each race in the Open D Category, bringing home one gold, one bronze and three silver medals.
- Tomas Liska-Gardiner, a U15 competing in the E Category, captured wins in the Tempo and Elimination races and earned silver medals in the Keirin, Scratch, and Points races.
- Ethan Lambourn, also in the E Category, consistently finished near the podium in several events and despite a crash that took him out of the Elimination and Points races closed out the weekend with an impressive silver medal in the Madison.
- Harry Langford, Matt Hodgins, Santiago Barahona Forero and Benjamin Buczkowski had many personal best finishes in the E Category throughout the two day event.
- Santiago Leal Quinones and Maelle Burton, U15 athletes, kept Attack on the podium in every race in the F Category. While Issac Aston, Breeze and Kinsley Biskaborn all continued their upward trajectory this track season, seeing major improvements in their race acumen.
- Vienna Biskaborn and Kellen Burton, U13 athletes competing in the G Category, captured numerous podium finishes, highlighting the team’s strength at all levels.
“From our U19 to our U13 athletes, everyone rose to the occasion,” said Andrew Buczkowski, Program Director for Attack Racing. “Ethan’s persistence in the E Category and his silver medal in the Madison were a testament to his tenacity and teamwork.”
The two-day event featured a variety of races, including the 500m/Kilo Time Trial, Scratch, Elimination, and Points races on Saturday, followed by the Keirin Tournament, Tempo, and Madison on Sunday. A special Flying 200m event allowed junior athletes to qualify for a coveted spot on the Canadian project to Appledorn, Netherlands, in January.
Performance Coaches Marten Mann and Amy White reflected on the team’s achievements: “Seeing the athletes deliver such strong performances at the start of the season is exciting. It’s clear they’ve been putting in the work, and this sets a great foundation for the season ahead, ” noted Marten, while Amy added: “The energy and teamwork across the squad were phenomenal. Watching them learn from each race and support each other was inspiring.”
With the next Ontario Cup event scheduled for January and the Junior Track Nationals in April, Attack Racing is setting its sights on continued success.
“Our focus is on development and long-term growth,” added Andrew Buczkowski. “These early results are just the beginning of what this team can achieve.”
Attack Racing extends its gratitude to the parents, coaches, and supporters who made the weekend a success.
